Dr. Greg Lund
Senior Pastor
Dr. Greg Lund is a native of Tacoma, Washington. He attended Seattle Pacific University where he met his wife, Kirsten, in Shakespeare class. The two spent a year in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China teaching English and sharing their faith. Not long afterward, Greg heard God’s call to ordained ministry, and attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. He interned at First Presbyterian of Atlanta. Greg has pastored churches in Dalton, GA, as associate minister; Milwaukie, OR, as Pastor/Head of Staff (13 years), and most recently served at Westminster Presbyterian in GA (6 years). His doctorate is from Fuller Theological Seminary of Pasadena, CA.
Our Staff
Kirsten has retired from a career teaching English as a Second Language. Greg and Kirsti have two grown sons, Peter and Benjamin. Peter and his wife Kris live near Portland, OR, and have three children: Olivia, Gunnar, and newborn Gus. Benjamin is a singer, a graduate of the Jiulliard School, and still lives in NY. For fun, Greg rides his bicycle, plays the violin, grows ferns, throws pottery, and bakes a mean loaf of Challah bread. Greg and Kirsti love travel, reading, and TV murder mysteries.
Sylvia Sullard
Spiritual Formation Director

Sylvia has been a part of the FHPC community for 26 years; all of them spent serving in youth ministry, until May 2019. Her story begins near Seattle, where her parents, both teachers, raised Sylvia and her younger brother. Sylvia attended Seattle Pacific University and went on to a youth ministry internship in Gig Harbor and then to Phoenix, AZ for 3.5 years before coming to Friday Harbor in 1997. After 30 years of serving in youth ministry and receiving a certificate of Spiritual Formation and Direction from the Renovarè Institute, and a certification in Spiritual Direction from CFDM, Sylvia has now shifted into a new role of Spiritual Formation Director.
This means, instead of building program tools to primarily high school teens, she is now taking those skills and considering the wider church, with a focus on teaching and practicing formation tools that encourage us in our growth to become like Jesus. Sylvia will be in a teaching role, both filling in for Pastor Greg from time to time and working with church committees to create more opportunities for both discipleship and relational fun. As a credentialed Spiritual Director, Sylvia can offer spiritual direction to those who are interested.
Laura Concord
Coordinator/Choir Director

One of my first memories is of standing in front of a large congregation of loving, smiling faces, and singing a solo of “Jesus Loves Me”. I was probably three years old. I grew up in a musical Christian family. My Dad was a professor of music at a Bible College and my Mom sang a wonderful alto. I studied music under my father’s tutelage. Over the years I have performed at many spectacular venues…the Seattle Opera House, with the Victoria Symphony, with the Bozeman Symphony, the Portland Convention Center both as soloist and choir member, but my heart always calls me back to singing with my fellow Christians. I’ve been privileged to be the music minister of several churches and am always grateful when God calls me to do this. I hope that many of our wonderful congregation will join with the choir in making a joyful noise unto the Lord!
John Boyd ("JB")
Director, Youth Ministry

John, or JB as he is known to many on the island came to Friday Harbor in a very roundabout way. Growing up in Houston, he fell in love with the outdoors after spending 17 years at a Christian sports summer camp. JB has a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M, and is a certified secondary education teacher. It was at the same summer camp that he also met the love of his life, Sharon. They were married at the outdoor chapel in the piney woods of Trinity, Texas by an authentic rodeo preacher!
Then a move to Eugene, Oregon, where JB & Sharon built their first log home, and worked in real estate and as staff for a Christian youth home. They bought their first home on San Juan Island in 1996, and have called the island home ever since. JB has had many jobs in his years on the island, including ferry worker, security for Warner Brothers, renting mopeds, substitute teacher, District Assessment Coordinator, Truancy Liaison, Certified Marine Naturalist, Licensed 100 ton captain, and now leads our middle school and high school youth groups. JB is also a published author, having written 3 books. He jokes that when he's not working one of his seven jobs, he's slowly whittling away at his growing "honey do" list. He volunteers with many groups, and loves working with kids!
